Environment and Conservation Fund| Food Commons@Shatin > Food Commons Upgraded |From recycling to education | Building a less waste community

2025-09-18

Food Common s@ Shatin launched in August 2021, the third phase of the project commenced in August 2025! In addition to our ongoing collection of surplus food from various markets and businesses in Sha Tin District, screening, sorting, and donating it to underprivileged families, this phase has added two new practical elements:

Opening the public to the "Market Recycling Experience"

Participate in the process of collecting and sharing surplus food firsthand and experience the meaning of food conservation!

Organize "Seasonal Food Commons Seminar"

We teach food preservation skills, creative leftover cooking methods, and nutritional therapy strategies to provide a tasty and environmentally friendly experience. This project not only encourages food saving and waste reduction in the neighbourhood, but it also constantly raises public environmental consciousness.  We are devoted to leveraging community resources to assist those in need, decrease food waste, relieve landfill pressure, and broaden the impact of environmental conservation initiatives.
